When are the courses offered?

Workshops can be taken at any time. Literally, as soon as you register.

How often does the instructor email the students, i.e., how many assignments?

The instructor in in touch with the students whenever they like, want or need assistance Classes are designed to last 4 - 6 weeks and have several minor and several "major" assignments designed to teach students about audience analysis , technical writing styles and give them some practice.

Do the facilitators provide feedback?

Facilitator's provide extensive feedback on each assignment. Students are welcome to contact facilitators for additional coaching at any time! The assignments are posted on web pages so that students can proceed at their own pace--they don't have to wait for assignments to be e-mailed.

When do classes start?

Whenever you are ready. It's basically self-paced. You are neither held back or forced to go faster than you wish. Workshops usually span about five-six weeks.

What credits do you receive by completing this course?

These are CEU credits. Continuing Ed. They do not transfer to a "for-credit" institution. However, having taken the workshops under stringent guidelines approved by the same accrediting agency that at handles the "credit" side assures you of a high quality educational experience.

Does any software to be installed, or is contact only through email?

There is no software to be installed. You do need to be able to send files in MSWord or WordPerfect or as an RTF file. Contact can be through email, instant messages, or chat rooms. Students also have access to a phone number in case they would like to speak to someone in person.

Do I need to submit a transcript to take the workshop?

No, you do not.

How do I register and what is the procedure?

If you register for all 3 courses at one time you get a 10% discount. However, you can begin your certificate study by enrolling in just one workshop if that suits your needs.

Having no experience in technical writing, the courses seem, in themselves, useful but I'm curious about the advantages of the certificate program. Is the certificate an industry requirement or an alternative to hands on initiation?

It is always good to show that you have earned something when it comes to education. The certification and certificate validate your course of study.

When you say self paced, do you mean that there are no deadlines on assignments or that you can start assignments when you wish?

No, rather work is given a broad schedule but you have flexibility in terms of when you choose to work, and how fast or slow you want to do it within the schedule .You must complete your work within the 5-6 weeks allotted. Your assignments can be handled on a rather open ended deadline, week-by-week. Just check with your facilitator.

If one were to complete each certificate course say within 6 weeks, what might the average weekly workload be? 10 hours?

That is about right, but given individual learning behaviors that number can vary.

I am interested in taking the certificate in technical writing. Must I sign up for all three courses at the same time?

No, you can take them one at a time. We do however, discount the three workshops if you order all three at one time.

Do I need to buy text books for any of the courses.

Information from textbooks and web based materials serve to support the course curriculum. Our  facilitators use a comprehensive text so your purchase of the textbook (about $100 will cover you for all three courses).

Through which college are these courses accredited?

Coastal Carolina University & Clemson University validates these courses as being accredited.
